What is independently reviewed

The Independent Reviewer carries out the review based solely on the relevant documentation that was in the possession of the investigator/investigating committee when it was conducting its investigation of the matter.

Depending on remit, if the Independent Reviewer is provided with new information that was not before the investigator/investigation committee and if she is of the opinion that this information is significant she can generally require the investigator/investigating committee to re-open the matter or potentially could require that the new information be opened as a new investigation.
